Today, the foundation for the outdoor learning space was poured. 5th grade students pressed their hands into the drying concrete to give this space a special touch. You can see this new addition to Glenridge on the southwest side of the building, along Wellington Way. Right now, it is a work in progress and we cannot wait to see what becomes of this new space. Thank you for all the hard work 5th graders and families have put in to raising the money to fund this project!

Age of Exploration Project Share
We had a great turn out today for our project share! The energy level was high and the room was overflowing with in-depth discussions around the significance of the Age of Exploration. Thank you to all the family members, students, and teachers who were able to come this afternoon to support our 5th graders. We hope you walked away with new knowledge of this time period. The following pictures will give you a small glimpse of the 5th graders hard at work, sharing all that they learned throughout this project. Enjoy!

April 7 -
The biggest highlight from today was bringing our first Social Studies unit to an end. We finished it up by discussing our final decisions for who really discovered America. Many students gave credit to the Native Americans because they believe the natives were here before any Europeans. Some people still wanted to give credit to Christopher Columbus because he played a huge role in bringing back news of land to the west getting others interested in exploring. A few students also wanted to give credit to The Vikings because they were the first Europeans to find northern parts of America and bring backs news of this land to their homeland. We also spent some time today practicing for our Age of Exploration project share that will take place on Monday, April 13th from 2:30-3:15.

Today we had Spanish and PE. In Spanish we played a game to help us with capitals. In PE we did archery. In social studies we are learning about the Europeans then and now and how they encountered the Native Americans. Hopefully you can join us next Thursday afternoon at 2:45 to learn about the explorers and age of exploration topics we have been studying. Today we went to the library to find out some things about our curiosity topics. Students were exploring all different topics - ancestry, Elizabethan fashion, architecture, programming, how the brain works, writing, and so much more!
Have a good weekend. Your 5S bloggers Sarah V and Sahi G
